Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How often should I see a dentist?
A. Dr. Dale and Dr. Canal recommend visiting our office twice a year for dental checkups & cleanings. The American Dental Association (ADA) guidelines also recommend a minimum of two visits per year.

Q. What should I expect during my appointment?
A. If you have a dental emergency, we will first review your medical & dental history. Next, one of our dental assistants will take any necessary x-rays of your teeth. Once Dr. Dale or Dr. Canal speaks with you concerning your problem area & reviews your dental profile, he will discuss a diagnosis with you. If treatment such as a filling, root canal or oral surgery is needed, we will plan to treat you in our office or refer you to a specialist, if necessary. We will discuss your options for treatment & fee payment & help you determine the best financial plan to fit your needs.

During regular hygiene visits, we will examine your teeth & gums, screen you for oral cancer & clean & polish your teeth. Dr. Dale or Dr. Canal will carefully listen to any description of pain or problems you may be experiencing, answer any questions you may have & make plans for any needed treatment.

Q. What does “painless dentistry” mean?
A. Painless dentistry is a means of ensuring your total experience in our office is as stress-free & pain-free as possible! We will discuss treatment options that may require no local anesthetic & whenever possible, alleviate pain by the means most comfortable to you.

Q. Does Dale Family Dentistry offer “laughing gas?”
A. Yes. As gentle as we are, some patients are still apprehensive about dental visits. Many patients find great comfort in nitrous oxide (laughing gas) to relieve anxiety.

Q. What if I have an emergency?
A. Please call our office as soon as you determine that you have a dental emergency. We will be glad to work you into our schedule if you have a dental emergency during regular business hours. After hours, over the weekend & during holidays, patients of record may call our office & follow the answering service instructions to notify us of your emergency, & he will return your call as soon as possible.

Q. Are payment plans available for my dental treatment?
A. Yes! We accept most types of dental insurance & will be happy to process your claim for you. Most patients with insurance will owe nothing out of pocket for cleanings, & if treatment is needed, we will work with you to create a payment plan to help you get the treatment you need. To help you with this, we offer a low interest rate payment plan & also accept most major credit cards, including MasterCard, Visa, American Express & Discover. Kim & Ashley are always ready to help you find a payment plan that will work for you! If you do not have insurance, we offer our patients an In-House Dental Plan for one low price each year. For more information on this plan, please call Kim or Ashley during our regular business hours.

Q. Can the dentist whiten my teeth?
A. Yes, & it’s easy! We make an impression of your teeth & create a mouthguard that fits your bite. Each day you fill the mouthguard with a small amount of bleaching gel & wear it overnight or for a few hours during the day. This bleaching process takes approximately two weeks.

The ADA recommends that you seek the professional advice of a dentist, including examination & diagnosis of the cause of tooth discoloration, before you begin any bleaching program.

Q. What if I have a gap in my teeth, a chipped tooth or teeth that do not respond to normal bleaching methods?
A. We can make your teeth look beautiful using porcelain veneers. Porcelain veneers are designed to look like your natural teeth & are individually & permanently attached to the fronts of your existing teeth. Bonding utilizes a composite material made of plastic to fill in areas of your teeth & correct chipping & shape problems. Both porcelain veneers & bonding are color-matched to your other teeth. For a free consult with Dr. Dale or Dr. Canal to discuss any of these cosmetic options, please call our office during regular business hours to schedule an appointment.
